Dr. Mahtani Requests Higher Authority for Intervention in the Portland Cement Zambia Case

Portland Cement Zambia is a noted cement factory in Zambia. During its growth years, it was one of the biggest producers of cement in Zambia. The factory was also known for its above-industry average salaries for the workers and employees. However, the current situation of the factory is dismal to say at least. At the same time, the real owner of the cement factory, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, has been trying to regain the legal ownership of the factory for almost ten years.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani has been fighting for the legal takeover of the Portland Cement Zambia at the Lusaka High Court. The case has seen numerous changes, stalls, and transfers of the judges. The latest judge handling the case announced some time ago that the case hearing has been closed and both parties have been asked to submit their evidences in written and oral format. As per the experts and popular opinion, the evidences and testimonials from Dr. Rajan Mahtani’s side were much stronger compared to the respondents. However, the final verdict from the judge was shocking as the judgment came against him.

As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani and his lawyers have appealed to the higher court of law against the judgment made by the Lusaka High Court judge. As per Dr. Rajan Mahtani’s appeal, the verdict given by the judgement was incorrect and based without any of the evidences or testimonials presented by the parties. At the same time, the both parties were not present during the verdict provided. Also, the verdict was given despite the evidences as presented before the court. The judge also ordered transfer of shareholders without any basis as well as without any evidences to support the claims of the other parties.

As such, appeal has been established to higher court and reply is awaited. Dr. Rajan Mahtani and his team are hoping that the judgment will be reversed as required corrections will be made.
