The fall of Portland Cement Zambia is being mourned by all. But very less people know that its fall was planned. When it comes to considering incidents and interconnecting one with the other, it becomes obvious that the whole picture slowly unfolds in front of the Zambian public.
Forced takeover of Portland Cement Zambia
The very first instance of the fall was seen when the factory was taken over by force by Ital Terrazzo Limited. This took place in the early hours of 7th April and since then the whole arrangement of the factory has changed. The workers of the factory were in a state of confusion and the existing management was thrown out before they could make an appeal or place a proposal to discuss terms.
Termination of workers
Another horrific sight was caught few months after the takeover. The factory workers were being dismissed one after the other without any prior notice. The only explanation that they got was that the factory didn’t had enough work for them and hence, they were being removed from their existing job. The result was that hundreds of Zambians were suddenly on road with a family to feed.
Transfer of assets
The last nail in the coffin was placed when ITL decided to channelize the existing assets of the factory to third party entities which were indirectly operated by themselves. This made it evident that they were least interested in the growth of Portland Cement Zambia.
Thus, from the above discussion it has become clear that the fall of Portland Cement Zambia was planned by the conspirators. As long as Finsbury Investment was running the factory, it was making a good progress and was becoming an influential entity in Ndola. Sadly, the conspirators had other plans and hence, the downfall took place. Today, Portland Cement Zambia has become beyond repairable.
