The Portland Cement Zambia has been under the control of conspirators for almost a year now. What has changed during this period is extremely shocking and disturbing at the same time. The workers who were once making decent income and were planning a bright future, are now under the fear of losing their jobs and being unable to gather any money to meet their basic requirements. This is what Portland Cement Zambia has now been reduced to and this how life at Zambia’s one of the most promising cement plant looks like.
Factors like hygiene and safety of the workers are no longer a concern for the management. Even if there are some actions taken by the factory workers against their sorry situation, the same is immediately retaliated by either making the worker suffer or dismissing him from the job. Back in 2014, this was the same factory where super profits were registered and workers were seen rejoicing their achievement. None had the idea that within a matter of months, the same factory will now be left in the hands of Italian Mafias, who continuously try to make their own profits and deprive the deserved.
With the year 2015 being passed, it was the first time that the factory had suffered losses. A major share of the loss took place because of the excessive cash withdrawal which was made by the management. This is why, the factory kept eliminating workers and remained unconcerned with regard to the developments. Pedro, a worker at Portland Cement Zambia commented, “While we were under Finsbury Investments, we had a good life. Now all that we have is shame, guilt and mistreatment from the management. The Ventriglias are simply ruining the achievements made by Dr. Rajan Mahtani.”
Life in Portland Cement Zambia can improve under only one condition- removal of the Ventriglias from the management.
