Zambian President Announces Total Abolishment Of Capital Punishment.

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, noted businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, has extended his full support to the recent decision made by the Zambian President. On Africa Day, the President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, recently made an announcement in which he shared his quest towards abolishing the death penalty row. In this announcement, Zambian President stated that the concept of death penalty is cruel, inhumane and degrading and does not hold any significant in the present society and economy. This announcement from the Zambian President received widespread support from Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, noted businessman, philanthropist and charity worker from Zambia.

Even through there are various people opposing this decisions, Dr. Mahtani has argued that capital punishment or killing of the convicts will not solve underlying problems. According to Dr. Mahtani, a person given death row is already living the punishment on a daily basis as the prisoner will never know when it will be their last day on this earth. There are around 386 death row inmates in Zambia at the moment and around 30 of them are women. Dr. Rajan Mahtani also argued that there are a number of inmates who have transformed themselves by returning to the god’s penance and there is still hope for them to change their lives for the better.

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani further stated that even though the decision made by the Zambian President was a step in the right direction for the Zambian society and legal environment, it will take significant support to ensure that the decision becomes a reality soon. For this, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani will provide legal and regulatory support via his company Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ) which is a noted Christian Outreach Program focussing on bringing the learnings of the Almighty god to the prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families in Zambia. Overall, death penalty is wrong and the statement made by the Zambian President improves the standards of the Zambian legal system.
